Porsche 924 2.0 to 944 Turbo Engined Track Car

Another Porsche project this time. Some of you may have seen the white painted shell lurking at the back of the workshop for a while now. (it is a tad dusty)

We haven't quite finished it yet, mainly because we haven't quite started!

The project is basically to build a track day car based around a 924 shell.

The 924 is lighter than a 944 which is being further lightened using fibreglass front panels and wings and a plastic rear hatch. Also, the shell has been totally stripped of all sound deadening, rustproofing etc. It was then bead blasted to remove any remaining paint etc.

The shell was then stitch welded for increased stiffness prior to being painted white and fitted with some very nice Carrera GT rear wings for that period look.

924's are not quick, so this car is being fitted with 944 turbo running gear throughout.. Needless to say, the engine will not be standard. With a bigger turbo and some other goodies such as a Wortec switchable exhaust we should be over 350bhp. With a target weight of 1000kg this should make for a quick car.

There are a considerable number of differences between a 924 and 944, so a lot of parts mixing to be done!
